June 14, 2001: Movie #4 CD.

Heavy metal band Disturbed also makes a prominent showing on the "Lord Slug" soundtrack, bringing its visceral rap-metal aggression to the mix. The band, which was formed in Chicago in 1997, grabbed ears nation-wide last year with the release of its Giant Records debut, "The Sickness." The group was named Best New Band in Hit Parader's magazine poll, and will tour on the Ozzfest bill this summer.

"It makes perfect sense for such cutting-edge bands to be included on the new Dragon Ball Z soundtrack," explained Gen Fukunaga, President of FUNimation. "This is one of the most cutting-edge cartoons on television today, and it is a perfect fit with today's hottest new bands."

Joining Deftones and Disturbed on the soundtrack are Wind-Up Records recording artists Boy Hits Car, Dust for Life, Fingers Eleven, American Pearl and Broken. The movie, set to hit the shelves August 7 on home video and DVD formats, is the fourth full-length Dragon Ball Z feature presentation. This time around, Goku must battle an evil overlord, Lord Slug, who has come to Earth inside a deadly asteroid with just one goal - to destroy it. Once Lord Slug discovers the seven magic Dragon Balls, it appears that even Goku may not be able to keep the planet out of his evil clutches.

Wow interesting news. Lets just hope the music is better than the T.V specials. Via Official Site.

June 6, 2001: Details on New DBZ game.

Some details on Infogames new DBZ game and what a game it is.

PLYMOUTH, MN, June 5, 2001 - Unveiling the first details surrounding its lineup of eagerly anticipated video games based on the Dragon Ball Z® property, WizardWorks, a division of Infogrames, Inc. (Nasdaq: IFGM) announced today The Legacy of Goku® for the Game Boy® Advance. Developed by Webfoot™ Technologies, Inc., The Legacy of Goku® is an action-adventure game complimented by engaging role-playing elements, that challenges players to defeat enemies throughout various quests in an effort to save Earth from the Saiyans, and save the galaxy from the evil Frieza. As the story unfolds, players explore vast lands and interact with numerous characters as they attempt to complete their quest.

"Dragon Ball Z® has a loyal following in the millions, and our primary goal with The Legacy of Goku® is to provide them with a compelling interactive game that stays true to the cartoon series," said Paul Rinde, senior vice president and general manager of WizardWorks. "To that end, we've incorporated the same distinctive visual style and deep character development, and combined them with proven game features such as multi-play and dynamic story telling."

In The Legacy of Goku®, the kidnapping of Goku's son sets off a chain of events that ultimately threatens the safety of the galaxy. Powerful alien forces converge on Earth to acquire the powerful Dragon Balls -- objects which when brought together grant the possessor a single wish. Ultimately, the stage moves to the distant planet of Namek, one of the sources of the Dragon Balls, where an entity of mind-boggling strength, Frieza, is preparing to gain immortality by enslaving the galaxy. It's up to Goku and his friends to stop Frieza before it's too late.

Throughout The Legacy of Goku®, players can build up and maximize their character's powers to aid their quest during future battles. Success in combat depends on mastering the balance of Melee versus Ki fighting. In story mode, the primary mode of single-player action, players move from chapter to chapter, completing quests and fighting battles. However, gamers can also play several chapters at once, simultaneously controlling different characters and accomplishing different tasks.

Wow it sounds like a interesting game *cough*. Well It's for the gameboy so don't expect much. Via Official Site.

Also, boys 9-14 ratings (3.9) and delivery (346,000) posted 144 percent and 179 percent growth.

Cartoon Network set new May total day ratings and delivery network records, posting double-digit ratings and delivery growth across households and all key kids demographics. Total day ratings grew 10 percent in households (1.1) as well as 10 percent for tweens 9-14 (1.1) and kids 2-11 (2.2), and 19 percent in kids 6-11 (1.9). Overall, the all-animation network finished May in third place in total day ratings (1.1) and tied for third place (with USA) in prime time ratings (1.6) among all ad-supported cable networks. Prime time delivery for households (1,193,000) and tweens 9-14 (311,000) set new records for the month, up 12 percent and 9 percent, respectively. May prime time ratings and delivery for kids 6-11 (3.4/564,000) and kids 2-11 (3.9/1,081,000) also charted new records. Kids 6-11 ratings increased 10 percent, while kids 2-11 ratings grew 5 percent. Sad news for you people who have purchased Prelude to Terror.

AnimeNation has confirmed directly with Funimation representatives that Funimation has no plans to offer any sort of exchange, discount or concession to consumers that have previously purchased the Dragonball Z Trunks: Prelude to Terror DVD and still plan on purchasing the upcoming Dragonball Z: Z Warriors Prepare DVD. The Z Warriors Prepare DVD will include the entire content of the Prelude to Terror DVD, TV episodes 106-108, and episodes 109-110, previously available only on dubbed VHS. It sucks for you people who have these episodes but for people like me it is all so sweet. Mwaaah. Via Official Site.

May 24, 2001: Season 5 air date confirmed.

FUNimation is happy to announce that starting September 3 new episodes of Dragon Ball Z will begin airing on Cartoon Network. Until then, viewers can enjoy a double dose of their favorite TV series that is Cartoon Network's No. 1-rated show. DBZ is being aired in back-to-back episodes in the popular Toonami block. The extended Dragon Ball Z lineup began May 14 and airs weeknights from 6-7 p.m. EDT, then 12 to 1 a.m. EDT for Toonami's Midnight Run.

"This is a testament to just how well-loved the characters of Dragon Ball Z have become," said Gen Fukunaga, president of FUNimation, which introduced the Japanese TV series to America. "No other series has ever been allowed that amount of time during Toonami, so this obviously is a very exciting time - not only for FUNimation, but for all Dragon Ball Z fans."

In addition, the Cartoon Network has designated May 25 as Z Day, which means that the entire Toonami will be dedicated to airing Dragon Ball Z episodes. Viewers have been and can cast votes online for their top 2 DBZ episodes, which will be included in the May 25 broadcast.

And starting June 25th, be sure to tune into Cartoon Network to watch the Dragon Ball series that will begin airing in the time slot immediately following DBZ. Dragon Ball is the series that started it all.

May 18, 2001: New VHS defects

Well kinda it seems that FUNimation has somehow screwed up the sleeve to the new Dragonball VHS that are coming soon. Here's what FUnimation has to say about it:

There was a slight slip-up on one of the images that appears on both of the sleeves of the new Dragon Ball videos, titled Tournament - Roshi's Request and Tournament - Turtle Hermit Training. Don't worry, Tournament - Roshi's Request and Tournament - Turtle Hermit Training will still be released on their target dates of June 5 and June 19, respectively. One shipment of both videos with the slip up is already headed to stores. The image has since been corrected and new sleeves will be ready soon. It will be interesting if fans can find out the difference in the two video sleeves. We are hoping that the second set of videos will make it to stores near you without any delay. Due to this slip-up, you might want to get your set of these DB videos on street date. You can secure a copy of each at the DBZ Store www.dbzstore.com or at other fine DBZ retailers.

So it isn't really that big of deal but to some it is. So if it is a big deal to you wait for the street date to get these tapes. Via Official Site.
